Does size matter? Yes, Nano even better!

"Nanotechnology is the idea that we can create devices and machines all the way down to the nanometer scale, which is a billionth of a meter, about half the width of a human DNA molecule." ~ Paul McEuen

Nanometer scale which is a billionth of a meter. Hard to imagine right! Yes very difficult.

Here is a video which will help you all to imagine-

Now, that you know how small Nano is... below is a picture defining Nanotechnology.

EMINENT PERSONALITIES aka FATHERS OF NANOTECHNOLOGY

L to R: Richard Feynman, K.Eric Drexler, Dr. Chad Mirkin.

NANOPARTICLES
  • A Nanoparticle is a microscopic particle with dimension between 1 to 100 nm.
  • The basic idea that goes in the making of Nanoparticle is reducing the size of an atom which in turn changes it's properties namely- Physical, Chemical, Optical, Thermal, Mechanical, etc.
  • Nanoparticles are of different shapes and dimensions(1D, 2D, 3D)

SYNTHESIS OF NANOPARTICLES

L to R: 1] Biological method via Plant extract 2] and 3] Chemical method of combustion.

APPLICATIONS
  1. Targeted Drug Delivery e.x: Doxorubicin
  2. Nanophotonics..
  3. Nanosurfactants.
  4. Nanocatalysts.
  5. Printed circuit Boards.
  6. Spintronics.
  7. Nanosensors.

I conclude by saying- THE NEXT BIG THING IS REALLY GOING TO BE SMALL
